Professor Salvatore trained as an experimental social psychologist. She studies difference and perceived difference — both between groups (e.g., stigma management) and within groups (e.g., conformity). She regularly teaches courses related to social psychology and is co-authoring a book on social justice. She has published peer-reviewed research and commentary in Psychological Science, Sex Roles, Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy, and other journals. She is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology and the British Journal of Social Psychology, and serves on the governing council of Division 9 of the American Psychological Association.
