Helping young women
break the mold since 1901
Sweet Briar College will help you engineer your own bright, successful future.
We see you over there, tinkerer.
You make things. You take things apart and aren’t afraid to break things in the process. You investigate. You imagine how things could work differently than they do. You're a problem solver who wants to make the world better. Sweet Briar College has always been a home for curious, capable, hands-on learners like you. So what's your next problem to solve? Engineering your own future. We're here to help. So while you are thinking about writing the equations for a system that starts with "curious high schooler who likes to understand how things work" and ends with "successful woman engineer changing the world around her " - make sure Sweet Briar College is one of the givens.
We do engineering as it should be done.
The Sweet Briar College Margaret Jones Wyllie ’45 Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, and offers elective courses in environmental engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. It’s one of only two degree-granting engineering programs at a women’s college in the U.S.
We teach engineering as a flexible mindset and a fundamental, interdisciplinary set of skills that will fit any specialty. It’s the solid foundation you need to ride the constant wave of changes in technology — and exactly what employers and competitive graduate programs told us they were looking for. We believe the best way to learn is through project-based, hands-on learning—so much so that you’ll start tackling real-world projects in your very first class and continue all the way through your senior year. It’s all the challenge and sense of purpose you’re looking for — discovering all the ways you can become a woman who gets things done.
Why wait to get started? Sign up below and we'll mail a Sweet Briar Explore Box - your very own example of the kind of project based, hands-on problem solving that you'll be doing here.
