Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get credit for my advanced placement (AP) exams and/or for courses taken at a college or university?

Official AP exam results are reported by ETS — only at your request — to the College’s registrar during the summer. When you meet with your advisor during orientation, s/he will tell you if you are receiving AP credit. In general, scores of 4 and 5 are credited. Please make sure you have requested that your AP scores be sent to Sweet Briar’s registrar. Official transcripts for work completed at other colleges must be sent directly to the Sweet Briar College registrar.

Which English course do I need to take?

Your advisor will tell you which English course you need to take during your first semester.

How am I placed in classes?

New students will receive guidance on course registration at academic advising meetings during orientation. In some programs, students may take an online placement test for specific courses.

What are Reading Days?

Built into each semester, these days are an opportunity for students to catch up on academic work and prepare for exams.

How do self-scheduled exams work?

At the end of the term, students schedule their own examinations. There are two available exam periods per day. Depending on the number of exams you have and the number you elect to take on a particular day, you may finish early or late in the examination period. We encourage first-year students to discuss their exam requirements with their professors before making travel arrangements. First-year students in particular should schedule extra time so they are not rushed during the important exam period.
