Sweet Briar’s IHSA team leads region, ties for high-point team at final fall show

IHSA team 2018The Sweet Briar IHSA team finished the final event in the autumn half of the schedule in a tie for high-point team, while first-year Chloe Kerschl earned high-point rider at the Christopher Newport show, which took place at Stonehouse Stables on Saturday.

Sweet Briar leads the team standings in the region at the conclusion of the autumn slate of shows.

Kerschl (Lexington, Va.) won her intermediate flat class, while finishing second in intermediate fences before winning a ride-off to earn individual high-point rider at the show.

Junior Madeleine Favre was third in intermediate flat and fifth in intermediate fences.

Sophomore Kaitlin Duecker (Chesapeake, Va.) won the novice flat, while junior Olivia Kolenda (Ladysmith, Va.) won in advanced walk, trot, canter. Kolenda’s ride in advanced walk, trot, canter earned her qualification for the regional show in late February.

First-year Jen Markey (Montpelier, Va.) finished second in novice flat and senior Ailish Rhoades (Lebanon, Conn.) was third in open flat.

Juniors Amber Snyder (Jefferson, Md.) and Erin Snyder (Jefferson, Md.) finished second and third, respectively, in the advanced walk, trot, canter.

Junior Lauren Helber (Richmond, Va.) finished fourth in novice fences and senior Nicole Sabovik (Ridgefield, Conn.) was sixth, while first-year Pauli Born was fifth in her Sweet Briar debut. Born made her Sweet Briar debut, riding in walk, trot.

The Vixens are back in action on Feb. 9, 2019, as Liberty hosts a show at the Liberty University Equestrian Center in Rustburg, Va.
