Daisy’s innovations keep annual Ghost Tours fresh

Sweet Briar College will host its annual Ghost Tours at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 through Saturday, Oct. 30. The popular, family-friendly tours explore the history of the College and the story of the young girl for whom it was founded, Daisy Williams.

For nearly a decade student guides have organized and led the tours under the supervision of Sweet Briar Museum director Christian Carr. They take visitors to various paranormal hot spots on campus — the historic library and Sweet Briar House mansion to name a couple — narrating creepy tales handed down from past generations and sometimes adding fresh ones to an ever-changing script.

Daisy occasionally thinks up new ways to spook people, says Carr, who over the years has added a few stops at sites where the more recent spectral phenomena are said to occur. The new stories keep even repeat visitors intrigued and coming back for more, she said.

The approximately 40-minute sessions conclude with free cookies and hot apple cider in the library Browsing Room.

Groups depart from the Sweet Briar Museum. The cost is $5 for the general public and free for Sweet Briar students and employees.
