Update on our COVID guidelines

Dear Members of the Sweet Briar Community,

We all are relieved that with more widespread vaccinations occurring both here and around the country, the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be entering a new, more manageable phase. With that in mind, Sweet Briar’s COVID-19 Task Force has discussed the College’s health and safety guidelines and I want to make you aware of where things stand.

At this point, most of our current safety guidelines will continue until at least June 10. That means:
Mask wearing and social distancing will continue indoors.
Wear a mask outdoors when social distance cannot be achieved.
Temperature checks at the gatehouse will continue.
No outside visitors will be permitted in buildings, other than the FAC, except for contractors or people engaged in campus business.
We will discontinue random employee testing this summer. Please keep monitoring your symptoms and do not report to work if you are symptomatic.

The COVID Task Force will meet through the summer to review the College’s policies and help plan for next semester. We will let you know about any changes to these guidelines as those decisions are made.

We strongly encourage all employees to be vaccinated. Employees can use two (2) hours per shot of paid time to get vaccinated; it will not reduce your vacation and sick time accruals.

Like many other schools, we are considering requiring vaccination of all our students and employees. Part of the decision process will include medical and religious exemption options and the procedures for non-vaccinated students and employees to keep the community safe. We will let you know when a decision has been reached.

I know this has been a challenging year. Thanks to your efforts and diligence, we’ve come through it safely and have much to look forward to in the coming academic year.

Be well,
