Tuition, Financial Aid, and Scholarship Resources

We offer very competitive pricing, well below the average for private colleges. Sweet Briar provides a private education at a public college price. Review our cost information below.

Recommend a Student for a Scholarship


A merit-based scholarship for students majoring in engineering. These scholarships are awarded at up to $5,000/year for four years.

Girl Scouts

In partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA, Sweet Briar College offers a total of five scholarships for girls who have completed the Gold Award. Each scholarship award is $2,500 toward the first year of study.


Offered to Sweet Briar’s top prospective students, these merit scholarships may cover the entire cost of tuition.

Standardized Testing Policy for 2020-2021

Sweet Briar continues to offer a test optional opportunity for students whose cumulative GPA is a 3.0 or higher. Students below this GPA may submit alternative evidence of their qualification through a video interview, supplemental essay, or two letters of recommendation.

Application Process for First-year Students

You are considered a first-time first-year student if you are a current high school senior or have not attended college since graduating from high school.


  1. Completed application. Sweet Briar will accept either the Common Application, the Coalition application or our own online application.
  2. Transcripts of all academic work completed to date. Sweet Briar accepts the General Education Diploma (GED) in lieu of a high school diploma. Depending on your circumstances, you will need to provide an official final transcript with proof of high school graduation prior to the start of your first academic year at Sweet Briar. We will accept electronic copies directly from your school or via Credentials Solutions, the National Student Clearinghouse or Parchment.
  3. If applicable, a list of current (senior-year) grades.
  4. If applicable, students can submit this form to request a transfer credit evaluation for dual enrollment or AP credit.


  1. Standardized test scores are optional with GPA of 3.0 or higher. Sweet Briar accepts the SAT or ACT. Official scores must be submitted directly to the College. Sweet Briar’s SAT code is 5634 and the ACT code is 4406.
  2. Letter of recommendation encouraged from a counselor, teacher or alumna
  3. Essay (written or video), writing/art sample, portfolio, or interview (live or online) encouraged — This is an opportunity for you to be creative and tell us more about yourself and your interest in Sweet Briar.
