Why study government or international affairs at Sweet Briar?

Across sectors and disciplines, Sweet Briar women gain the critical skills needed to solve complex problems. They learn to think deeply and broadly about the impact of policies on people, markets and institutions. By combining academic rigor and real-world relevance, our academic program prepares graduates to create positive social change. Our major and minor programs offer a wide range of courses, covering American politics, law, comparative political systems, foreign policy, international relations and political theory. The program awards credit for off-campus internships in law, politics and public service.

Many students also spend a summer, semester or year abroad. Immersion in another culture is one sure way to gain international perspective. Four out of 10 Sweet Briar students study abroad, taking advantage of the College’s JYF program or working with faculty to develop a customized program to meets their academic and career goals.
