Sweet Briar College Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

Sweet Briar Institute, doing business as Sweet Briar College, operates the online websites, including but not limited to, known as sbc.edu, sbc.edu/(enter any name), sweetbriar.edu, discover.sbc.edu and sbcfarm.com (the “Sweet Briar websites”). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information and
other information we receive from users of the Sweet Briar websites.

We use your Personal Information only for providing and improving the Sweet Briar websites. By using those websites, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information You Provide

In order to use certain Sweet Briar websites, or a portion of the Sweet Briar websites, you may voluntarily elect to create
an account (a “Sweet Briar Website Account”). When you choose to create and use your Sweet Briar Website Account,
you will provide us with a variety of information, such as your name, age, gender, postal address, physical address, email
address, phone numbers, messages you may send us, and other types of information. We will store and use such Personal
Information only in accordance with this Privacy Policy. In addition, we may use non-Personal Information (including, for
example, aggregated information about our visitors or information that does not identify any particular individual) for any
purposes whatsoever (including, without limitation, advertising, marketing, enhancing, designing, or developing products
or services, and research) and we may share such non-Personal Information with others, including our affiliates, partners,
consultants, contractors, and other service providers as set forth herein.

Personal Information Collection and Use

Personally identifiable information (“Personal Information”) means information relating to an individual that can be used
to identify, locate or contact that individual, alone or, when combined with other personal or identifying information, such
as (but is not limited to) the following: your name, home or physical address, email address, telephone number, or
personal characteristics (such as age or date of birth, race, and gender).

We will only store and use such Personal Information as is reasonably necessary or appropriate in connection with your
use of the Sweet Briar websites and for other specific purposes, including (a) to contact you in connection with your use
of the Sweet Briar websites, including to respond to your inquiries; (b) for authentication and identification purposes; (c)
to process your application, if any, for admission to Sweet Briar; (d) to provide you with notices about Sweet Briar’s
Website Account and your application for admission (if any); (e) to fulfill any other purpose for which you provide such
information to us; (f) in any other way we may describe when you provide the information; (g) to carry out our obligations
and enforce our rights; (h) to provide you with relevant advertising promotions; (i) to ensure your compliance with any
applicable terms and conditions and/or to investigate any potential breach of such terms and conditions; and/or (j) to
protect our networks, data, software, or business interests.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and we will not sell, lease, or disclose your Personal Information to any
third party except as specifically described in this Privacy Policy.

In addition to using and disclosing your Personal Information in the manner described above and elsewhere in this Privacy
Policy, we may disclose your Personal Information:

  • To any person, entity, or organization which you consent for us to disclose your Personal Information to;
  • To our affiliates (such as the Sweet Briar College Alumnae Association), our business partners and agents who
    provide services as is necessary or required in connection with those services;
  • To comply with any legal requirements, subpoenas, discovery requests, or court orders, or to defend any legal or
    administrative proceedings, or as we believe in good faith is otherwise necessary to comply with any laws or legal
    requirements;
  • As we believe in good faith is necessary or appropriate to respond to an emergency situation, including without
    limitation, to prevent criminal activity, personal injury, or property damage;
  • To law enforcement, financial institutions, or other appropriate authorities in connection with any investigation of
    suspected criminal or fraudulent activity by any person or entity; and/or
  • As we believe in good faith is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of the College, our
    students and faculty and employees, our affiliates, and any third parties.

We will not knowingly disclose your Personal Information to a third party if we know or have good reason to believe that
the third party will or may use your Personal Information for direct marketing purposes, unless you specifically and
proactively choose to opt-in to such sharing.

Log Data

In addition to the Personal Information which you may proactively choose to provide to us, we may also collect and
record information that your browser automatically sends whenever you visit the Sweet Briar websites (“Log Data”). This
Log Data may include information such as (but not limited to) your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser
type, browser version, the pages of the Sweet Briar websites that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent
on those pages, referring websites, and other statistics.

In addition, we may use third party web analytic tools and services, such as Google Analytics Demographics and Interest
Reporting features, that automatically collect, monitor and analyze data about your use of the Sweet Briar websites, which
helps us provide content that is relevant to you and optimized for the devices that you use (such as smartphones and
tablets). We respect and value your privacy, and we never combine the information collected through the use of such
tools or services with your Personal Information. We use information we receive from Google Analytics only to improve
the Sweet Briar websites and our content and marketing. Google’s use and sharing of information collected by these tools
about your visits to the Sweet Briar websites is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy
Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network Ads using
Google’s Ad Settings tool. As an added privacy measure, you can use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cookies

The Sweet Briar websites may also use cookies, flash cookies, web beacons, and other technologies which collect
information and create files with a small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. This
information is collected for a variety of purposes, such as saving and retrieving information about you, your visit, and
assisting in displaying relevant information about you. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on
your computer’s hard drive.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all such cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do
not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of the Sweet Briar websites.

We may provide links on the Sweet Briar websites to other websites that are not under our control (“Third Party Sites”).
These links are provided for convenience or reference only and do not indicate: (a) any affiliation between Sweet Briar
and the Third Party Site; (b) Sweet Briar’s approval, sponsorship, or endorsement of a Third Party Site or the organization
or individual(s) operating such Third Party Site; and/or (c) any agreement with or endorsement of the information or
content contained on such Third Party Site, including products or services that may be advertised, offered or sold on a
Third Party Site. We accept no responsibility for, and we expressly disclaim, any warranties or liability relating to the
truth, accuracy, relevancy, copyright compliance, legality, or decency of materials displayed or contained in any Third
Party Site. Your access to and use of any Third Party Site is at your own risk and will be governed by the terms and
conditions and policies posted at such Third Party Site, including any privacy policy posted on such Third Party Site.
Your rights and obligations with respect to any of the products, services, information, or other content available at any
Third Party Site will be determined by the terms and conditions, if any, posted at such Third Party Site.

Student Records

Student records at Sweet Briar are protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Virginia law, and
Sweet Briar policy. Sweet Briar policy also provides information on a student’s right to limit access to otherwise public
directory information.

ADA Accessibility

Sweet Briar attempts to make its Sweet Briar websites and online information accessible to all individuals. If you use
special adaptive equipment and encounter problems when using the Sweet Briar websites, please report them using the
contact information provided on equipment providers’ websites. Additional accessibility resources and assistance are

Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without prior parental
consent, unless permitted by law. If we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with Personal Information,
then we will delete it in accordance with applicable law.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us. We have implemented measures designed to secure your
Personal Information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration and disclosure. You must
remember, however, that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100 percent
secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee
its absolute security. Therefore, we remind you that you are responsible for safeguarding the username and password
associated with your Sweet Briar Website Account and notifying us immediately if you suspect your username and
password or your Sweet Briar Account have been compromised in any way. In addition, if you prefer not to provide any
information to Sweet Briar online, you may cancel the online transaction and contact us (at the address below) to learn
about available options for conducting business in person, by mail or telephone.

Sweet Briar accepts credit card payments online for a variety of goods and services. Unless otherwise noted on the Sweet
Briar websites, all Sweet Briar credit card transactions are encrypted. Information entered to complete a transaction will
not be used by Sweet Briar for any other purpose unless the purpose is described on the Sweet Briar websites.

Sweet Briar-owned or controlled computers, servers and other equipment are public property and may be examined from
time to time by authorized individuals to detect improper, illegal, or non-governmental use, to evaluate the security of the
network, or for other governmental purposes. Please be aware that any information placed or stored on a Sweet Briar-
owned or provided computer is subject to review by Sweet Briar or its agents at any time.

Access to and Change of Personal Information

You may contact us at any time: (a) to request the removal of the Personal Information you provided to us from our
databases; and (b) to update your Personal Information. However, certain information associated with financial
transactions and student records may be retained permanently for legal, tax, and business reasons. In addition, because
certain Personal Information may be necessary to provide the Sweet Briar websites to you, you understand that the
removal of the Personal Information may require us to delete your Sweet Briar Website Account. When your Personal
Information is updated or deleted, copies of such information may remain in our backups for a period of time.

Disclaimers of Warranties

Your use of the Sweet Briar websites is at your own risk, and the Sweet Briar websites and all content and information
available on and through the Sweet Briar websites are provided “AS IS,” “WITH ALL FAULTS,” and “AS
AVAILABLE,” without any warranties or conditions whatsoever, to the fullest extent permissible under applicable law.
While we will make all reasonable efforts to provide accurate and timely information and content on the Sweet Briar

that the Sweet Briar websites contain all of the relevant information available. We make no representations, warranties, or

This Privacy Policy only applies to the Sweet Briar College websites which can be accessed by the public and it does not
apply to websites or website pages where access is restricted to certain authorized users, such as students or employees of
the College. Access to and/or use of those other websites or website pages, and any services thereon, may be governed by
separate license agreements, terms of service, and/or College policies.

This Privacy Policy is effective as of May 3, 2023 and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its
provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page. This Terms of Use and
Privacy Policy should not be construed as a contractual promise. We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy
Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post
any material modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications
and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.

If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the email address you have
