Faculty and Staff
Whitney-Guion Professor of Physics
Ph.D University of Maryland. B.S. MIT. Professor Hyman has research interests in radio astronomy and image processing. He is currently conducting a wide-field search for transient radio emission from the center of our Galaxy in order to discover new types of astronomical objects. He has published extensively on his research, including an article in the journal "Nature" on the discovery of the bursting transient source, GCRT J1745-3009. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation, NASA, Research Corporation and the Jeffress Memorial Trust.
Chair, Associate Professor of Physics
Ph.D Wake Forest University. B.S. College of Charleston. Professor Yochum has research interests in experimental condensed matter physics, optics and laser spectroscopy. He spent the 2006-07 academic year at Virginia Tech working at the Center for Self Assembled Nanostructures and Devices. Yochum comes to SBC from Lucent Technologies/OFS working on doped fiber devices and optical amplifiers. His research is currently funded by the Jeffress Memorial Trust. Yochum is also involved in middle school science teacher education via funding from NSF and the State of Virginia. He also directs the Sweet Briar engineering program.
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physics
Ph.D University of Virginia
