International Student Orientation

Fall 2013
You should arrange to arrive on campus on Monday, August 19, or Tuesday, August 20, 2013. There will be a mandatory orientation program for new international students beginning Wednesday, August 22. During this program you will have a chance to open a bank account, obtain a social security card, meet with campus officials and learn about life as an international student at Sweet Briar.

The campus is approximately 15 miles north of Lynchburg, VA. Lynchburg is the closest airport. You should ask your travel agent to book your flight all the way through to Lynchburg, Virginia. The College can offer you transportation only from that airport and only on August 19 and 20.

It may help your travel agent to know that Lynchburg has connecting flights from Atlanta and Charlotte. Though there are public buses and trains from larger cities, the ride is long and very unpleasant if you are traveling with luggage.

If you have a driver’s license in your home country you should ask your travel agent about obtaining an international license. If your passport is less than one year old, please bring a copy of your birth certificate. Please be sure to have access to at least $2,000 to cover initial expenses, such as books, Post Office box, telephone bill and anything else you might need.

Questions should be directed to Tiffany Cummings, director of international studies, (434) 381-6345, or e-mail: tcummings@sbc.edu.
