Sweet Briar Ghost Tours are FaboolousVIRGINIA MONCURE '08 Daisy Williams (pictured) and her mother, College founder Indiana Fletcher Williams, are said to haunt the campus.
It’s about time for the annual Sweet Briar Ghost tours. This year, the tours will be held from Friday, Oct. 26 through Tuesday, Oct. 30. There will be two tours a day starting at 5 and 6 p.m. Each will last about 45 minutes. The tours will start at Sweet Briar Museum and end in Cochran Library’s Browsing Room, where refreshments will await. The tours will include stories about Sweet Briar’s founder, Indiana Fletcher Williams, her daughter, Daisy, and their favorite places to make ghostly appearances. The tours have become quite a hit with people at Sweet Briar and in the surrounding counties. Kate Skafidas, a member of the Chung Mungs tap club, said the tours “were a success [last year], and that a lot of people from Amherst County came and enjoyed themselves.” Skafidas, who also gave tours, added, “We mostly had groups of nine year olds, who seemed to really like it.” In addition to a glimpse of Sweet Briar’s most beautiful and historic buildings, the tours also will include great stories. “We tell the stories and get to add our own twists,” Skafidas said. The cost is $5 for the public and free for Sweet Briar students, alumnae, faculty and staff. No reservations are needed. If you have questions, please call the Sweet Briar Museum at 381-6246.
