Dean of the College Jonathan Green was featured in the fall issue of Central Virginia Home magazine.

Green, a music professor best known for his baritone and compositional prowess, talked about his and wife Lynn Buck’s longtime love of food and cooking in the magazine’s Culinary Corner section. He revealed to columnist Lucy Cook — the founder and co-owner of Magnolia Foods — that he is working on a cookbook, “To a Woman’s Heart,” and mused about a concept for a chain of fusion restaurants.

Don’t look for him to don chef’s togs full time, though. “The restaurant is just an idea and a menu that I would like to talk someone else into starting,” Green said. “My days in the day-to-day restaurant business are hopefully over.”

The dean also managed to plug next month’s Waxter Forum environmental lecture at Sweet Briar by Michael Pollan, the author of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” The book explores how food is grown. Green points out in the article that so much of the food we eat comes out of “huge factories,” with costs not only for the environment but to our palates as well.

The feature on Dean Green appears in the third issue of Central Virginia Home, a new full-color quarterly publication. The article includes photos shot in The Deanery kitchen by SBC alumna Nancy Marion ’74. Marion is owner of the Design Group, which provides the magazine’s graphic design.
