Students Walk Dogs for Cash … or Free

What started out as a fitness plan has turned into a small business for Sweet Briar students Katie Miller ’09 and Danielle Haines ’10. This fall, the two budding entrepreneurs started a dog-walking service for the Sweet Briar community.

Although they will happily accept money for their work, Miller and Haines say they’re in it for the love of dogs and the exercise.

“I started the dog walking at first by myself to get back into shape and I thought about taking Dean Steele’s dogs for company,” Miller said. “On the day of the blood drive, I asked my friend, Danielle Haines, to help me because I’d given blood out of my left arm and I did not want to bruise.”

Twice a week, Miller and Haines can be spotted around campus walking Cheryl Steele’s dogs, Kayla, Tippy and Ella, and Anne Richards’ dog, Fletcher. “It has been a fun adventure walking them,” Miller said. “We look forward to walking more dogs.”
