Students Plan Habitat Carnival, Sell Tumblers

From staff reports

Sweet Briar College’s business management lab will have a carnival to benefit Amherst County Habitat for Humanity 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30. All events will be held in the Upper Quad on Sweet Briar’s campus.

Activities will include a dunk tank, cotton candy, relay races, face painting, pony rides, powder puff football, “pie a professor,” a fire truck and ambulance, cake walk and various carnival games.

Parking will be available behind Prothro Hall. Admission is $5 per person to participate in all activities. Cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs and drinks also will be available for purchase.

In case of rain, the event will be held in Williams Gymnasium.

For the past several years, Sweet Briar’s business management students have organized events to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Their goal is to help the local chapter reach its goal of completing their 27th house next year.

“The carnival is a first for the management lab,” Tom Loftus, assistant professor of business, said. “I was hugely impressed by the ideas the girls came up with. This is a community event that has received tremendous on-campus support. This event is a tribute to the commitment made by our students to Amherst Habitat for Humanity.”
