New Faculty Joins the Chemistry Department … Well, Sort of

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the chemistry department. Well, she’s not exactly new, but she has a new name.

Chemistry students have been participating in a name the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer contest. The winners were announced last week. The 400-megahertz superconducting NMR is now known as “Dr. Oblina Bubble,” a moniker suggested by Elizabeth Masonis ’11.

Runner up in the naming contest was Tina-Rose Tolpa ’10.

As winner of the contest, Masonis will be the “Nerd-on-the-Beach” next summer sporting her Periodic Table of the Elements beach towel and reading a new book, “Napoleon’s Buttons: How 17 Molecules Changed History.”

Tolpa will amaze her friends with all she’ll know about “The Joy of Chemistry: The Amazing Science of Familiar Things.”
