New Faculty Joins the Chemistry Department … Well, Sort ofJILL GRANGER Liz Masonis (left) and Tina-Rose Tolpa pose with Dr. Bubble.
Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the chemistry department. Well, she’s not exactly new, but she has a new name. Chemistry students have been participating in a name the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer contest. The winners were announced last week. The 400-megahertz superconducting NMR is now known as “Dr. Oblina Bubble,” a moniker suggested by Elizabeth Masonis ’11. Runner up in the naming contest was Tina-Rose Tolpa ’10. As winner of the contest, Masonis will be the “Nerd-on-the-Beach” next summer sporting her Periodic Table of the Elements beach towel and reading a new book, “Napoleon’s Buttons: How 17 Molecules Changed History.” Tolpa will amaze her friends with all she’ll know about “The Joy of Chemistry: The Amazing Science of Familiar Things.”
Thanks to all of those who participated and stop by and say, “Hi” to Dr. Bubble next time you’re at that end of the hall!
