Sweet Briar’s Janet Lowrey Gager Community Concert Series will present “The Music of Germany” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Memorial Chapel. The event is free and the public is welcome.

The program will include a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Sonata in E-Flat Major, Op. 7” by New Covenant Schools 10th-grader Anneliese Dailey on piano. Dailey is a student of SBC music professor Rebecca McCord.

Lynn Buck, a frequent guest flutist and wife of Dean Jonathan Green, will perform Franz Schubert’s “Three Romances, Op. 94” with McCord on piano, who also will accompany mezzo-soprano Mimi Hermosa in a performance of “Die Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs), Op. 103” by Johannes Brahms.

Anna Billias will play second piano with McCord on Brahms’ “Sixteen Waltzes for Four Hands, Op. 39.” Billias is the accompanist for Sweet Briar’s Concert Choir and plays for Lynchburg’s premier children’s choir, Cantate.

Nicholas and Jana Ross will perform “Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 30, No. 3” by Beethoven. The Rosses teach in Sweet Briar’s music department and make up half of the James Piano Quartet, with Jana on violin and Nicholas on piano.

The Gager series features music from around the world. It is made possible by the support of Forrest Gager, in memory of his wife, Janet, who served as Sweet Briar’s director of public relations. All concerts are open to the public. For more information, please e-mail or call 381-6115.
