Kestner Ranks among World’s Best, Speaks at Yale ClubSUZANNE RAMSEY Bonnie Kestner, associate professor of physical education and long-time swim coach at Sweet Briar College, has been ranked among the world’s best in master’s swimming. FINA, the governing body for swimming, recently posted its 2007 world master’s top-10 performances for short course swimming and Kestner is ranked in five events. The rankings are broken out into age groups and Kestner, who swims in the 55-59 class, was sixth in the 200-meter freestyle and 200 and 400 individual medleys; seventh in the 200 backstroke, and eighth in the 200 butterfly. Her times were set last spring at the Virginia Senior Games.
Also, on April 11, Kestner spoke at the Yale Swimming Association dinner at the Yale Club in Princeton, N.J. The event celebrated the 110th anniversary of Yale University swimming. Kestner, a 1974 graduate and the first varsity women’s captain of the Yale swim team, was asked by the association president to speak.
