Info on Tuition Exchange Programs

From staff reports

Sweet Briar College participates in two tuition exchange programs, The Tuition Exchange Inc. and CIC Tuition Exchange. Both are sponsored by a consortium of colleges and universities that allow children of qualified faculty and staff to be educated at member institutions at substantial discounts.

Acceptance into either tuition exchange program is determined by the importing institution’s participation level in the plan, and is not guaranteed.

The Tuition Exchange Inc. Program

We remain in good standing for the 2007-08 academic year with The Tuition Exchange Inc., but in order to maintain that status, the following limitations will apply:

  • only one student per employee may participate at any given time; and,
  • eligibility for applying includes three continuous years of full-time employment. Priority among eligible faculty and staff will be determined by the number of full-time years of service to the College.

Any faculty or staff member who has a child eligible for participation in The Tuition Exchange Inc. should submit the following to Theresa McNabb (tmcnabb@sbc.edu) by Sept. 25:

  • child’s name and social security number
  • list of participating colleges the student wishes to apply to (for a list of schools visit http://www.tuitionexchange.org/partinst.cfm)
  • the child’s status for 2008-09 (i.e. first-year, etc.)
  • employee’s name and years of full-time service to the College.

Notification of eligibility to apply for a Tuition Exchange Inc. scholarship will be made by Oct. 8.

CIC Tuition Exchange Program

The College also participates in the CIC Tuition Exchange program, which is much less restrictive. There is no restriction on the number of students per family in the CIC Tuition Exchange program. To apply for the CIC Tuition Exchange program please submit the following to Theresa McNabb (tmcnabb@sbc.edu) by Sept. 25:

  • child’s name and social security number
  • list of participating colleges the student wishes to apply to (a list of the schools in the CIC program can be viewed at http://www.cic.org/tep/index.asp)
  • the child’s status for 2008-09 (i.e. first-year, etc.)
  • employee’s name and years of full-time service to the College.
