Members of the Sweet Briar and area communities gather Sunday, Oct. 7, for a potluck at the Community Garden. More than 50 people attended.
Eco-Floor Hosts ‘Local Food’ PotluckFrom staff reports Mmm. Tasty local food.
On Sunday, Oct. 7, the Eco-Floor sponsored a potluck-style dinner at the Community Garden. The event, “Local Food: An Omnivore’s Solution,” consisted of locally grown foods and was held in preparation for Michael Pollan’s visit to Sweet Briar on Oct. 9. Students and faculty were encouraged to bring a dish made of food grown within 100 miles of Sweet Briar. The goal was to support local farmers while reducing the amount of gas used in shipping food cross country.
Fifty-five people attended, including seven from Lynchburg College. “It was a great success and the Eco-Floor students did a wonderful job orchestrating the event,” Debbie Kasper, Eco-Floor faculty advisor, said.
