Cross Country Club Competes in First Meet

First-Year Ana-Elisa Bryant Wins Race

Sweet Briar’s newly formed cross country club ran in its first meet Monday, Aug. 27, a scrimmage against Randolph College and Jefferson College of Health Sciences. The meet was held on a hilly, 3.1-mile course at the Presbyterian Home campus in Lynchburg.

Sweet Briar’s Ana-Elisa Bryant ’11 was the first woman to cross the finish line. She also was second overall, beating six male competitors. Her time of 24:17 was nearly a minute faster than her closest female opponent, Jessica Clark of Randolph.

Carlie Adams ’10 was the second Vixen to finish, placing eighth among the women with a time of 29:34. Anna Edwards ’10 followed Adams at 10th place and 30:32. Amy Overman ’10 placed 11th with a time of 31:37, and Adella Robinson ’10 was 12th at 34:25.

Scoring is based on finishing position, and in the end, Randolph College defeated Sweet Briar 42-20. Jefferson College did not field a full team.

Sweet Briar will travel to Lexington on Saturday, Sept. 1, for the VMI Season Opener. The race starts at 5:45 p.m. at the Virginia Horse Center.
