Chaplain Adam White Hosts Send Off for Retiring Assistant

For those who could not attend an April 30 reception held to recognize Pat Richeson as she prepares to retire from Sweet Briar, we offer here a brief sampling of what you missed. The reception was, by turns, touching and funny. Mostly funny.

Among the many nice things that were said, Adam White composed two top-10 lists, which he read for the amusement of his listeners. Here they are:

11. What did you do with my ______ ? (Stapler, tape dispenser, pen, campus directory — just fill in the blank).

9. Will you stop pacing, so I can talk to you.

8. I’m headed to the Bistro…keep in mind that if I get that far, I might keep on running.

7. Boing, boing, boing! (The sound of Adam bouncing in and out of the office.)

6. What are you looking at? (The usual morning greeting.)

5. I claimed crazy first.

4. Who am I? What day is it? What’s my name?

3. Did they ever catch those people who ransacked your office? Maybe you oughtta get the chief on that. (Pat looking at Adam’s study).

2. It looks like that letter bomb came through (Again, looking at Adam’s study).

1. PAT: “Is it Happy Hour yet?” ADAM: “No, not until 10:30.” PAT: “You mean we have to wait 90 minutes?”

10. Re-opening the Clifford School of Dance — with special remedial classes for guys in their mid-thirties who have never taken dance before.

9. Driving the appliance delivery truck for Lowe’s.

8. Professional wine taster for Rebec Vineyards.

7. Founder of Pat’s International Foundation for Stray Cat Rescue.

6. A Free Hug Booth on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.

5. Driving the FaSt Volkswagon van to our many gigs nationwide.

4. Tour manager for FaSt for our many gigs nationwide.

3. Pushing the FaSt Volkswagon van when it stalls.

2. Working the jack handle while fixing a flat tire on the FaSt Volkswagon van, while the guys sit and write a song about it.
