The walnut trees along Sweet Briar Drive have begun to drop their leaves, a sure sign students are due back on campus. As first-years, who arrived this weekend, explore their home for the next four years, upperclasswomen will be absorbing what’s new and what has stayed the same.
Returning students know to expect a little of both at the riding center, where Merrilee “Mimi” Wroten ’93 has taken charge as director of the riding program. She was appointed last year to replace former director Shelby French, who left at the end of the spring 2011 semester to lead the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association.
Wroten will continue the longstanding teaching philosophy that Sweet Briar riding is known for, while putting her own stamp on the program. She spoke about her plans and a little about herself for a profile published in the Summer 2011 Magazine.
