Sweet Briar swept the top finishes in its home Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show, hosted at Rogers Riding Center on Nov. 12. With 37 points, the Vixens were the high-point team, while sophomore Sarah Hibler was the top individual rider in the show and classmate Olivia Smith claimed the reserve high-point rider title.
Randolph College was the closest contender with 28 points. It was Sweet Briar’s second straight win and significantly extends the Vixens’ lead in the Zone 4, Region 2 standings.
Hibler led the individual highlights, winning both her intermediate classes in addition to the individual championship. Smith also was impressive, winning her open over fences class and placing second in open flat. Smith also expanded her lead in regional competition for the Cachionne Cup, the IHSA’s top national prize for individual riders.
First-year Kathryne Richard had another good show, winning her second novice flat class of the season. Laura Leitch ’14 was third in walk, trot, canter.
Following Sweet Briar and Randolph in the top six positions at the Sweet Briar show were Washington and Lee, 23 points; Bridgewater College, 21 points; Lynchburg College, 19 points; and James Madison University, 16 points.
