With one regular-season competition remaining for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 4, Region 2 title, Sweet Briar is in second place in the standings, just five points behind Bridgewater College.
The two region leaders tied for second place with 36 points at the most recent IHSA show at Hollins University on Feb. 18. Hollins won the team competition at home, with 42 points.
Among the Vixens’ individual highlights during the show were sophomore Olivia Smith’s first place in open fences and fourth in open flat. Smith is now qualified to compete for the regional titles in both classes.
Other first-place winners were Katie Drake ’14 in novice fences, Kathryne Richard ’15 in novice flat and Laura Leitch ’14 in walk, trot, canter. Also placing were Ali Davidson ’13, fourth in open fences; Katie Bradshaw ’15, fourth in intermediate fences and third in intermediate flat; Alison Hornbaker ’15, second in walk, trot, canter; and Kaitlin Schaal ’15, fifth in walk, trot.
The final show of the regular season will be held on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 25 at the University of Virginia, followed by regional finals in the afternoon.
