Taylor Selected for National Division III Singles Championship

Ariel Taylor ’14 has been selected by the NCAA to play in the 2011 National Division III Singles Championship Tournament.

Ariel Taylor, a first-year varsity tennis player from Springfield, Va., has been selected by the NCAA to play in the 2011 National Division III Singles Championship Tournament. The tournament will be held at Claremont College in southern California May 27-29.

Taylor went undefeated at first singles for the Vixens with a record of 16-0, with significant wins in regional match play as well as conference play. Ariel has achieved both doubles (with partner Moriah Burke ’13) and singles rankings in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Atlantic South rankings as of May 5, and has also helped the team achieve a ranking of 18th in the Atlantic South region of ITA.

In addition, Taylor is the Old Dominion Athletic Conference “Player of the Year” and “Rookie of the Year” for her performance in conference play for 2011.

“It has been at least twenty years since a Sweet Briar College player has made it to the national level,” tennis coach Teresa Boylan said of Taylor’s selection. “We are extremely proud of Ariel and are looking forward to this experience and representing Sweet Briar College in California.”
