Sophomore Rider Qualifies for IHSA Regionals

Sweet Briar College’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team competed on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Bridgewater College show, with several Vixen riders placing and one qualifying for regionals.

The individual results for Sweet Briar riders are:

Olivia Smith ’14 – second place, open over fences; sixth, intermediate flat
Morganne Young ’11 – sixth, intermediate over fences
Sarah Hibler ’14 – sixth, novice over fences; second, novice flat
Lauren Rogers ’14 – third, novice over fences; third, novice flat
Amanda Wager ’14 – third, novice over fences
Ali Davidson ’13 – fifth, open flat
Jodi Fritz ’14 – sixth, advanced walk, trot, canter
Bethany Dearden ’14 – second, beginner walk, trot, canter
Sissy Winstead ’12 – second, walk, trot

The second-place finish in the walk, trot class qualified Winstead for regionals.

Bridgewater College’s team took the overall win with 38 points, followed by Hollins with 36. The University of Virginia placed third with 27, while Lynchburg finished one point behind with 26. Sweet Briar finished fifth in the standings with 24 points. James Madison, Roanoke, Washington and Lee, Longwood and Radford rounded out the field.
