Letter from President Parker on death of Liz Wilson ’13

| June 13, 2013

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that I write to tell you of the death of Elizabeth “Liz” Wilson ’13, who in May received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with minors in business and classics.

Liz Wilson and President Jo Ellen Parker

Liz receiving her diploma on May 18.

Liz and Mariah Skalka ’14 were involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening in Bedford County.  Liz died from injuries sustained in the crash. Mariah is in Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she is currently listed in good condition.  Both Liz and Mariah were working in our library over the summer.

Please join me in extending condolences and support to Elizabeth’s family and friends, and in wishing Mariah well in her recovery.  As a College and a community, we will do all we can to support both families in the difficult days ahead.

Today at 4 p.m. in the library’s Browsing Room there will be a community gathering for anyone wishing to come together for support and comfort during this time of grief.

When final memorial arrangements have been determined by the family, we will share that information with you.

Sincerely,

Jo Ellen Parker
President
