Once again, it’s time for tea – English tea, that is – at Sweet Briar. At 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, the Florence Elston Inn and Conference Center at Sweet Briar College will host a traditional English afternoon tea in the Wailes Lounge.
The cost is $25 and includes a sherry aperitif followed by finger sandwiches, freshly baked English scones, assorted sweets and a variety of teas. Entertainment will be provided by harpist and Sweet Briar student Anna Edwards.
Finger sandwiches will include cucumber and fresh dill, minted radish with lemon mayonnaise, spinach tartlets with cream cheese crust, watercress and egg and cucumber and smoked salmon with horseradish butter.
Scones, to be served with Devon clotted cream and Fruits of the Forest conserve, will include raisin, stem ginger and lemon walnut, and sweets on the menu include strawberries with lavender cream, chocolate espresso cordials, brandied apricot bars, strawberry macaroons and cream-filled brandy snaps.
English Breakfast, Lapsang Souchon, Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Blackcurrant teas round out the menu.
