Sweet Briar College will present a Babcock Season Event, “An Evening on Broadway with Ron Raines and Don Pippin,” at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, in Murchison Lane Auditorium.
The program will feature stories and show tunes by singer-actor Ron Raines and music director and composer Don Pippin. In addition to his stage credits, Raines is noted for his Emmy-nominated portrayal of the villainous Alan Spaulding on TV’s “Guiding Light.”
In recent years, he received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in the revival of “Follies” and starred in the critically acclaimed Broadway production of “Newsies.”
Pippin’s Broadway resume spans more than 50 years as a music director, conductor, arranger and songwriter. He is especially noted for his musical direction and for collaborations with composer and lyricist Jerry Herman on Broadway musical hits such as “Mame” and “La Cage aux Folles.”
Pippin’s numerous credits include “Oliver!” for which he won a Tony Award for best musical director and conductor, and music director of the megahit “A Chorus Line.” He also was the musical director of Radio City Music Hall for more than a dozen years.
Tickets go on sale Monday, Sept. 9. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for non-SBC students and free for Sweet Briar faculty, staff, students and alumnae, and all children younger than 12.
