Sweet Briar riders win Collegiate Cup in Lexington

Sweet Briar College riders started spring break with a big win in Lexington, taking home the Collegiate Cup at the Spring Welcome Show this past weekend.

Two teams of Sweet Briar riders competed against multiple teams from area colleges, including the University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, Randolph College and Emory & Henry College to finish in first (“The Vixens”) and third place (“The Kits”) on Friday night. Competing for The Vixens were Emily Schlosberg ’19, Lily Peterson ’21 and Katie Balding ’21, while The Kits’ team included Maggie Fraley ’22, Britt Larson Jackson ’22 and Charlotte Hadley ’22.

The rest of the weekend brought great results in individual competition, as well. Peterson on Sweet Briar’s Dorado was high-point intermediate rider over fences, scoring two second-place finishes and a third and sixth-place finish in the adult hunters, second in the SWVHJA Medal and third in the VHSA equitation on the flat. Fraley was second in the 2’9” student equitation. Balding on Sweet Briar’s Dimitri VDL was high-point novice rider on the flat and over fences, placing third in the VHSA Medal, fifth in the VHSA equitation on the flat and sixth in the adult hunters.

Jenna Steinle ’22 and her own Andover placed third and seventh in the adults. Larson Jackson on Sweet Briar’s Aate was fourth in the SWVHJA Medal. Caroline Waters ’22 on her own Eragon won the Oak Ridge Medal and placed fourth in the high child/adult jumpers, Hadley on her own DaVinci won the SWVHJA Adult Medal, placed second in the 1.10 schooling jumpers and third in the high child/adult jumpers. She was also awarded the Children/Adults Jumper Style Award. Schlosberg on Sweet Briar’s Outsider was champion in the 3-foot student hunters.
