Sweet Briar librarian Lisa Johnston has been recognized by the Association of College and Research Libraries as the “Member of the Week.” Johnston, associate director of libraries at the College, is profiled on the ACRL’s Web site.
She has been a member of the ACRL since 1989, her first year at Sweet Briar. As do other librarians at the College Johnston holds title of professor, although she doesn’t teach classes in a traditional sense.
“I get to teach something different every day,” Johnston said. “That’s why I like this job.”
As the head of public services at Cochran Library, she oversees several areas in addition to serving as a reference librarian, assisting faculty and students with research. She also is the humanities liaison, a role in which she both develops the library’s humanities collections and works directly with faculty and students in those disciplines.
