An exhibit of photography by Sweet Briar College students opens today, Thursday, Nov. 5, in the lobby of the Elston Inn and Conference Center. Titled “Should’ve Seen it in Color,” the show opens with a dessert reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
Admission is free, and the exhibit runs through Thursday, Nov. 19.
The exhibit features 28 photographs taken by senior Amanda Samford and 11 other students. Samford, a communications major, organized the show as part of an independent study, with assistance from members of the newly formed Vixen Photography Society, or ViPS.
All of the images are available for purchase via silent auction. Bidding starts at $10 each, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to ViPS.
This is the first event for ViPS, which, according to Samford, hopes to begin sponsoring exhibits annually or more often. None of the images in the current exhibit will be part of the group’s future shows, she said, so this is the only opportunity to see them.
Samford founded ViPS this fall, along with first-year
students Danielle Hall and Caitlin Playle. In addition to 14 images shot by
Samford, the exhibit includes photographs by Hall, Playle, Emily Richonne ’12, Caroline
Spaugh ’13, Rebecca Andrade ’13, Kelly Murphy ’10, Margret Wood ’13, Emma
Rakosky ’12, Sarah Lindemann ’13, Elizabeth Hannon ’12 and Sally Toms ’13.
The show includes images from Sweet Briar and abroad, including France and
Brazil, and subjects range from flowers and landscapes to people.
