The Sweet Briar Field Hockey team placed 4th this weekend at the Mapp Invitational, falling to Drew University 10-0 on Saturday and then to St. Vincent on Sunday 3-1.
Leading the defense with a stellar performance was sophomore goalkeeper Madiline Wilson (Orange, Va.) who made 28 saves on the weekend. Also adding to the defensive effort was first year Julie Dopheide (Glen Mills, Penn.) with one defensive save. The defensive unit was able to shut down the attack many times, but was just unable to create enough opportunities for transition.
Leading the attacking effort this weekend was Junior Alicia Modzelewski (Virginia Beach, Va.) with her first as well as the team’s first goal of the season. The team was in the circle and creating many corners and opportunities but was just unable to finish.
The Vixens will be back in action this coming weekend when they head down to Tennessee to face Catawba and Sewanee.
