Two members of Sweet Briar's year-old Phi Beta Lambda chapter recently took top honors recently in a statewide competition aimed at future business leaders. The online contest required participants to log in and complete multiple-choice tests on business-related topics.
Laura Jett, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., was top scorer on both the statistical analysis and marketing concepts exams. Ashley Carpenter, a first-year from Factoryville, Penn., gave the most correct answers on the justice administration test.
The results were announced on April 4 in Richmond, and the wins qualify Jett and Carpenter to participate in the national Phi Beta Lambda competition to be held June 20 to 23 in Anaheim, Calif.
It will not be the first time Jett, a math major with minors in business and statistics, has competed at the national level. Last year, she placed first in the state in accounting principles and earned ninth place at nationals.
Both Jett and Carpenter, a biochemistry and molecular biology major with a business minor, plan to travel to California for this year's national competition.
Phi Beta Lambda is an association for college students interested in business careers and is a sister organization of Future Business Leaders of America - one of the nation's largest business-related organizations for high school and middle school students.
