The Sweet Briar College tennis team had a great team win over the Salem College Spirits today on the home courts of Sweet Briar.
In doubles, the team of Virginia Edahl ('10/Charlotte, N.C.) and Leslie Polaski ('10/Amherst, Va.) won at first doubles, 8-4.
Leslie Polaski, '10 At second court doubles, senior Stephanie Nance (Moneta, Va.) and
first-year player Ellen Reid (Germanton, N.C.) lost by a score of 8-4.
The team of sophomore Jessica Draper (Farmville, Va.) and first-year player Willis Blair (Richmond, Va.) worked well together to take the win 8-2. The Vixens led the match 2-1 going into singles play.
With Krista Maldonado ('12/Ennis, Texas) and sophomore Ebie Baker (Farmville, Va.) out of the line-up for this match, the Vixens stepped up and rallied well to take the win.
First singles player Virginia Edahl took both sets quite handily, blowing through the match to win 6-0, 6-0.
Stephanie Nance battled for the win on court two and took her match, 6-4, 6-0.
Junior Leslie Polaski beat her opponent with some steady serving and forceful groundstrokes, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Ellen Reid dealt with some unorthodox play from her opponent, but adjusted nicely and took the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
Jessica Draper settled into her game at fifth singles and added another point for the Vixens, winning her match 6-3, 6-0.
Senior Rachel Sullivan played a long and consistent match but the victory went to her opponent, 6-2, 6-3.
The final match score in favor of the Vixens was 7-2.
Sweet Briar's final home match for the 2009 season will be against ODAC member Guilford College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
