The Sweet Briar College tennis team lost to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Randolph College yesterday.
The Yellow Jackets of Randolph College (RC) outfoxed the Vixens early on, sweeping the doubles 3-0. Randolph College took four of the six singles courts, giving them the win with a final score of 7-2.
Despite the loss, there were a couple of highlights for the Vixens. In singles, junior Virginia Edahl (Charlotte, N.C.) blasted through her match on court 1 against Jane Campbell (RC) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. This win makes Edahl's singles record 5-3 for ODAC play, 10-6 overall on first court.
First-year player Willis Blair (Richmond, Va.) also won handily today against Anne Morris (RC). Her set scores were 6-2, 6-1. Today's victory for Blair puts her at a 3-1 win-loss record overall/ODAC at court six singles.
The Vixens will pick-up their postponed home match against Bridgewater College on Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. The Salem College Spirits (Winston-Salem, N.C.) will visit on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
