The Sweet Briar softball team hosted the Emory and Henry Wasps today at Vixen softball field. The teams split the pair with E & H taking game 1 with a score of 6-1, and the Vixens returned the favor by getting back in game 2, 6-1.
The highlights for the Vixens in game one were scarce. Despite seven hits, the Vixens were able to bring only one run home.
Sophomore Amey Landreth (Disputanta, Va.) went 1 for 4 in hits, Sarah Maroney ('10/Santa Clarita, Calif.) went 2 for 4, Jordan Pugh ('11/Afton, Va.) and Christen Campbell ('12/Appamattox, Va.) both hitting 1 for 3 in game 1.
Pitcher Megan Franklin ('11/Powhatan, Va.) pitched the whole game and records the loss.
Game 2 showed a very slow start for the Vixens. The Wasps held the lead for five innings with a score of 1-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Vixen squad came to life and scored five runs.
Jordan Pugh came up with a string of three hits, scored a run and an RBI.
Senior Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va.) had two hits and scored one run.
Campbell had one hit, scored herself, and in addition had two RBI's to her credit.
First-year player Blair Passagaluppi (Richmond, Va.) had one hit and one RBI to round out the team contribution for the win.
Pitcher Katelyn Jones ('12/Advance, N.C.) records the win with seven innings pitched, allowing only six hits, had six strike outs, and one base on balls.
