The Sweet Briar Softball team is in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for their spring break competition. Games from March 17 were rained out, but the Vixens put two games in today and are scheduled to play two games on both Thursday and Friday.
Today's games for the Vixens were against Arcadia College at 9:00 a.m. and Haskell College at 1:00 a.m.
In game one against Arcadia College, the Vixens fell 3-9. In the 5-hit game Melissa Viar ('09/Madison Heights, Va.) went 1 for 4 at the plate.
Sophomore Jordan Pugh (Afton, Va.) went 2 for 3, smacking a 3-run home run and chalking up 3 RBI's.
Vixens Mattie Witt (Bedford, Va.) and Christen Campbell (Appamattox, Va.), both first-year players, each went 1 for 3 offensively.
Sophomore pitcher Megan Franklin (Powhatan, Va.) pitched six innings for the Vixens and gets the loss. Anna Newberg of New Britain, Conn. came in for the seventh inning.
The Vixen squad lost to Haskell College in Game 2 by a score of 3-7. Highlights for the Vixens go to Melissa Viar, who went 1 for 3, and 1 RBI.
Jordan Pugh also went 1 for 3, with 2 RBI's. First-year players Katelyn Jones (Advance, N.C.) batted 1 for 2, and Roshel MacGorman (Forest, Va.) had two walks to get on base.
Sarah Maroney ('10/Santa Clarita, Calif.) batted 2 for 2 with 1 RBI.
