Sweet Briar, Va.—In the bottom of the third inning, trailing 3 - 0, Sweet Briar's Jordan Pugh ('11/Afton, Va.)got a 1-out single to score senior Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va.) and make it 3-1 after three innings.
Altoona gets the run back in the top of the 4th inning and now leads by three runs,4-1.
Anna Newberg ('11/New Britain, Conn.) replaces starting pitcher sophomore Megan Franklin (Powhatan, Va.) on the mound to start the 7th inning and shuts them down facing three batters and striking out two of them.
Going into the bottom of the 7th trailing 4-1 Viar gets on due to a throwing error by the third baseman. With one out Jordan Pugh hits an RBI double to score Viar, cutting the lead to 2. First-year player Mattie Witt (Bedford, Va.) hits a grounder to the shortstop who tags out Pugh who was off the bag at second. Score 4-2 with two outs and Mattie Witt on first, she steals second. RBI single by Christen Campbell ('12/Appamattox, Va.) makes it 4-3.
A single by Katelyn Jones ('12/Advance, N.C.) moves Campbell, the tieing run, to second and puts the winning run on first. Blair Passagaluppi ('12/Tappahannock, Va.)comes to the plate with the score 4-3, runners on first and second and two out. She hit a short pop-up to the third baseman, which should have been the third out, but she drops it so the runners advance. Bases loaded and two outs, Vixen Sarah Maroney ('10/Santa Clarita, Calif.), who was 0-3 at the time, steps to the plate and hits a 2-RBI double and the Vixens come from behind to win their first game of the season 5-4.

In game two, Sweet Briar College, trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Christen Campbell leads off with a double. Outs by Jones and Newberg brings up Sarah Maroney again with two outs. Maroney hits an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. Next batter Amey Landreth hits a 2-run homer to left field to give the Vixens a 3-2 lead after four innings.
The lead is short-lived as the Lions roar back with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead. The lions would tack on another run in the sixth to go on to win 7-3.
