The third singles spot for Sweet Briar was held by Ebie Baker, who had a slow start dropping the first set 3-6 to Salem's steady Michala Michaux. Baker regained her focus and battled back to take the second set, 6-4. A match tie-breaker was played, and Baker took it for the win 10-6.
First year Sweet Briar player Ellen Reid won the fourth court with steady groundstrokes that moved her opponent Ashley Bodford all over the court. Reid won the first set 7-6 (4), and Bodford retired at 1-0 in the second set due to injury.
On court five, Jessica Draper gave a hard-fought effort playing Salem's Tori Collier, who has a steady two-hander off of both the forehand and backhand sides. Collier won the match for Salem in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Vixen player Leslie Polaski, on court six, used her strong service game and topspin groundstrokes to keep her opponent Kim Wisen on the defensive throughout the match. Polaski won with scores 6-2, 6-1.
Stephanie Nance played Samantha Niemiec from Salem and using both spin and court depth, won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
