The third event in the 2008-2009 Janet Lowrey Gager Community Concert Series will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The concert will last approximately 50 minutes and people are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch to enjoy during the event.
The program includes several pieces sung by Sweet Briar students accompanied by pianist Anna Billias. Music professor Rebecca McCord called the student performances the “highlight” of the concert.
Katy Johnstone ’10 and Mary Susan Sinclair-Kuenning ’09 will sing a duet from “Little Women.” Johnstone will sing a solo, “Willow Song,” and Sinclair-Kuenning a solo, “Ombra Mai Fu.”
Sarah Schofield ’11 will perform, “What Good Would the Moon Be (Street Scene)” and Temma Clark-Bravermann ’11 a Leonard Bernstein piece. Kate Lydin ’09 will sing a song from “Les Miserables” and Mary Massie ’10 will perform a piece from “Sweeney Todd.”
Violinist Jana Ross, a member of the James Piano Quartet, also will perform at the concert, playing movements of Bach’s “E Major Partita.”
The Gager series is made possible by the support of Forrest Gager, in memory of his wife, Janet, who served as Sweet Briar’s director of public relations. All concerts are held in Memorial Chapel and are free to the public.
The final event in the series will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19. For more information, contact music professor Rebecca McCord at
