LYNCHBURG, V.A. — The Vixen swimmers traveled to Randolph with high expectations and came back with smiles after defeating conference rival Randolph College by a final score of 75-36. Sweet Briar dominated the meet as the squad went 1-2 in nine events. Coach Kuhn didn’t talk much about the win, only the performances of the swimmers. “Whether it’s a practice, meet, or championship, the swimmers are pushed by the coaching staff to be better than they ever thought possible. While definitely a demanding environment, the results for the fall semester are evident with many season and lifetime bests”.
First-year Charlotte Greenwood (Wyndmoor, Penn.) was a double winner in the 200 and 100 yard Freestyle. Coach Kuhn made special note of how far Charlotte has improved with her new freestyle technique. 2008 All-Conference Selectee’s Hannah Hesser (‘10/Richmond, Va.) and Melissa Simpson (‘11/Madison Heights, Va.) also won two events. Collegiate-best performances were turned in by juniors Catie Gumpman (Lynchburg, Va.) and Tori Marshall (Horsham, Penn.). The coaching staff also recognized the efforts of Sarah Hall (‘09/Chester, Va.) and Maryanne Grey (‘12/Chicopee, Mass.). “Sarah and Maryanne are two swimmers I know will give 110% each and everyday at practice; you just can’t wait for the hard work to pay off. It did today as Sarah swam an amazing 100 Butterfly and Maryanne just excelled in her first 200 butterfly”.
The team will continue to practice through finals before heading home for winter break. The team will return to campus in January to leave for the annual Winter Training Trip; located in Fort Myers Beach, FL.
