Sweet Briar's Carter Glass Professor of Government Barbara Perry appeared on "Evening Edition" on local public radio station WVTF on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Perry, an expert on the U.S. Supreme Court, was a guest on the show, along with Mark Rush, Robert G. Brown Professor of Politics and Law at Washington and Lee University. They discussed what impact the election of Democrat Barack Obama to the presidency might have on the nation's highest court. WVTF's Fred Echols, who anchors "All Things Considered" weekday afternoons, was the host.
The conversation ranged from the philosophical bent of the nominees Obama might pick to the types of cases a future court may agree to hear. The experts also speculated on which justices are likely to leave the bench during his administration, and the implications for the court's future make up.
Echols and his guests also took questions from callers during the hour-long presentation of "Evening Edition." The show airs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. A production of the WVTF news department, it covers myriad topics of local, state and national interest. The governor of Virginia makes regular appearances. Other guests may be industry or subject experts, politicians, or practitioners of such service areas as law and health care.
