Sweet Briar College will present Christmas Vespers at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 in Memorial Chapel. Admission is free.
The program includes hymns and anthems by the College’s concert and chamber choirs, under the direction of Frank Archer, as well as performances by pianist and Sweet Briar music professor
Rebecca McCord and
Clara O’Brien, a mezzo soprano and assistant professor of music at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
McCord will play organ preludes, “Meditations for Christmas,” by James Mansfield and “Cradle Song,” by Gilbert Martin, and the postlude, “Let the Earth Rejoice!” by Dale Wood.
O’Brien will sing Appalachian advent songs – “I Wonder as I Wander,” “As Joseph Was a-Walking” and “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” – arranged by
Lance Hulme, visiting professor of music at Sweet Briar. McCord will accompany on piano.
