Paige Kaylor and Renn Goldberg, both students at Sweet Briar College, returned to their home state of Maryland to win top ribbons in the Baltimore County Horse Show Association Adult Medal Final on Oct. 11.
After a stylish performance over the Glenn Moody-designed course at Claddagh Manor Farm in Churchville, Kaylor '10, riding Cori Kaylor’s When In Rome, led the standings.
Goldberg '11, on her own Tipperary, was close behind in second place. The top six riders were called back to flat, and the top four were invited to remain for testing. In a technical over-fences work-off that demanded precision, both riders remained cool under pressure and turned in solid trips.
After judge Sue Ashe had deliberated, Kaylor was called to win third place. Goldberg was left standing in the center of the ring as the winner of the 30th Anniversary BCHSA Medal Finals.
Both riders credit their trainers at Sweet Briar College, as well as their home trainer Katie Cooper of Caves Farm, for preparing them for the competition. Kaylor and Goldberg, who were competing as individual riders, had qualified for the finals during the summer.
