All three of Sweet Briar’s fall sports competed in home conference games today.
In Williams Gymnasium, the volleyball Vixens matched up against Guilford College. While there were many thrilling exchanges between the two teams, Sweet Briar ended up posting the win against the Quakers, 3-1. Game scores were 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18 for the Vixen victory.
Vixen players Chadan Watson (‘12/Sacramento, Calif.) and Ashley Winters (‘11/Mechanicsville, Va.) had impressive offensive plays with eight kills for Watson and 12 for Winters to contribute to the Vixen win.
Soccer hosted Washington and Lee and despite playing effective defense and holding the Generals to only one goal as of half-time, the Vixens lost by a score of 0-5.
Field Hockey played at Boathouse Field against top-ranked Lynchburg College. The young Vixen team held the Hornets to five goals, but lost 1-5. The lone goal for Sweet Briar was made by midfielder Melissa Carron (‘10/Grosse Point, Mich.). Senior midfielder Blair Sutton (Richmond, Va.) and first year goalkeeper Maddy Wilson combined for some solid play to contribute to keeping Lynchburg from getting on a scoring run. Head coach Hillary London had this to say about her team’s play,” Some key goalie saves by Maddy Wilson and defensive saves by Blair Sutton (Rhoadesville, Va.) definitely helped to keep the scoring down against a dominating Lynchburg team.”
The next home athletic event for Sweet Briar College will be on Tuesday Oct. 7 when soccer hosts Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
