Sweet Briar, Va.–The Vixens hosted the Bridgewater Eagles at Boathouse Field today in a rain-soaked battle that went to an exciting overtime finish.
Into the first half with 23:45 on the clock, Bridgewater scored the first goal. The Vixens rallied back to tie it with 11:40 on the clock when first year player Courtney Lanham (Culpepper, Va.) scored for Sweet Briar. The game was tied at 1-1 going into half-time.
In a chilling rain that would not let up, both teams kept the ball moving, vying for an offensive position to score. Bridgewater struck first with 22:17 on the clock in the second half to take the lead 2-1. Again, Sweet Briar answered back with a goalj at 13:14 by Aleicia Modzelewski ('11/Virginia Beach, Va.) to take it to 2-all.
Sweet Briar goalkeeper Maddy Wilson ('12/Orange, Va.) held the Eagles off with steady defensive help from her teammates as the game headed to overtime.
After over 10 minutes into overtime play, Bridgewater's Christina Pybus ('10/Manassas, Va.) scored the winning goal with 4:12 remaining on the clock. The Eagles win, 3-2.
The Sweet Briar team is now 4-4 for the season and will host Hood College on Homecoming Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at Boathouse Field.
