On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Sweet Briar Cross Country Club traveled to Salem, Va., for the Maroon Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. The 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) race was held at Mowles Spring Park.
In addition to Sweet Briar, competing schools included Roanoke College, Guilford College, Southern Virginia University, Salem College, Emory & Henry College, Randolph College, Mary Baldwin College, Ferrum College, Averett University, Greensboro College, Eastern Mennonite University, Bridgewater College and Penn State Altoona.
Three Sweet Briar runners competed in the meet. Lauren Miller ’10 finished first for Sweet Briar, crossing the line in 26:54 and 65th place; Alle Taylor ’10 followed in 29:07 and 74th place; and Michelle Anderson ’11 ran 32:14 and placed 85th.
For Miller and Anderson, these times were nearly four minutes faster than a time trial of the same distance run earlier in the season. Taylor also was faster by nearly a minute.
