The Vixen Volleyball team concluded tournament play today, Saturday September 6 splitting 1-1 for the day. Sweet Briar College lost in 4 games to Methodist College. Scores were 25-22, 16-25, 16-25, and 24-26, and despite this loss there were many Vixen tournament highlights.
Vixen senior Dori Rucker (Virginia Beach, VA) was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her outstanding play throughout the 2-day tournament. Impressive team contributions by sophomores Cassidy Jones (Rustburg, VA) having 13 kills, and Ashley Winters (Mechanicsville, VA) with 10.
Defensive specialist sophomore Laura Jett (Littleton, CO) put in 23 digs, while sophomore Brooke Moody was keeping close with 22. The team had a total of 10 block assists.
The fourth and final game for the Vixens was against the Meredith Avenging Angels. Sweet Briar College finished with a 3-1 victory. Set scores were 13-25, 25-19, 25-12, Sweet Briar staying tough to the finish to win 29-27.
Cassidy Jones made 14 kills, while senior Dori Rucker (Virginia Beach, VA) and Ashley Winters had 10 and 7 kills respectively, both with zero errors.
Jett continues leading the team defensively with 36 digs for the game, Ashley Winters with 23, and first year player Alexis Rukenbrod (Laurel, MD) left her mark with 31 assists in this Sweet Briar win.
The Vixen record for the 2008 season is now 4-5. Sweet Briar will host fellow ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins on Tuesday September 9 at 6:30 pm in Williams Gymnasium.
